We include our rates at Nine Four on the auto reply that a user gets when they ping us an email via our general enquiries address.
We charge £60ph or £420pd. We have a reduced rate for when working with other agencies though, £50ph or £350pd.
…that said, hourly and daily rates are pretty irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, different outfits have different ways of doing things… some include general project management in the hourly rate for example, some don’t… one outfit might charge £100pd but if they take twice as long as the outfit that charges £150pd then they’re not actually the better option.
For most of our custom projects we charge by the hour and try to give estimates. We charge $75 USD per hour and have been thinking about increasing our rates. But for 2010 I think they will stay put. The only thing we will do on a project cost basis anymore is what we call semi custom websites. Basically we take one of our templates and modify it slightly to the client’s needs (within reason). Project based pricing was causing us to lose our shirts with no clearly defined requirements or differing expectations. This way we can give regular updates and keep the client informed of where we are in our hours. And they get to benefit from our expertise in the area of ExpressionEngine. It is a win for both parties
@Nathan – Thanks for adding your rates and yes I agree that the rate is only part of the estimate – the duration is just as important.
@Marcus – welcome! Yes, project-based pricing can be difficult – I give the estimate on the amount of days I think the work will take. It takes some time to get right, a bit of trial and error, but we’re at the point where we can be pretty accurate.
You strike a very important point – communication is key – and that’s what influenced my decision to publish our prices! thanks for your comment!
